Mikhail Dolivo-Dobrovolsky, Russian electrical engineer and inventor, was born in Gatchina, a town outside of St.

Petersburg, on January 2, 1862. After attending secondary school in Odessa, he matriculated at the Riga Polytechnical Institute in present-day Latvia.
